After 20+ years building structures from the ground up, we've shifted our focus to keeping them standing. Matthews Wildfire evaluates your property through a unique dual lens: the technical eye of a wildfire mitigation specialist, paired with master-builder expertise.
The owner-operator, Chad Matthews, is an active NFPA Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist and ICC National Standard Building Contractor (A), with licensure to handling residential and commercial work alike. That means one point of contact, from initial assessment through final completion, with no handoffs between separate contractors.
Evaluate the property's surrounding environment, structures, ignition vulnerabilities, and nearby fuels to deliver a prioritized list of recommendations.
Protect your property from wildfire by upgrading your exterior with proven, ignition-resistant, and noncombustible building materials, including:
Reduce hazardous fuels and improve vegetation spacing within the home ignition zone, without sacrificing the character of your property, including:
Establish or improve access and egress, earthwork and grading, utility and fuel corridors, and other sitework infrastructure.
Colorado's fire seasons are getting longer. Insurance requirements are getting stricter. And homes in the wildland-urban interface are more exposed than ever. The right mitigation work today can be the difference between a home that survives and one that doesn't, and it's far easier to prepare now than to rebuild later.
From Ground-Up Construction to Wildfire Defense
Chad brings over 20 years of premier construction expertise directly to the frontlines of wildfire mitigation. His diverse background spans roles as a project manager, commercial superintendent, and a decade spent owning and operating a reputable general contracting firm.
A graduate of Colorado State University’s Construction Management program, Chad has successfully led commercial ground-up developments, complex tenant improvements, and extensive residential renovations across Colorado and Wyoming. He holds "Class A or Unlimited" contractor's licenses in both states. These credentials reflect a mastery of structural framing, building codes, and safety standards.
Structural Expertise Meets Wildfire Science
After two decades physically building structures, Chad pivoted his professional focus from constructing properties to defending them. Driven by a deep passion for wildfire science, he combined his extensive master-builder experience with specialized training as an NFPA Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist (CWMS). This rare intersection of skills allows Chad to evaluate a property from the inside out, understanding exactly how a building behaves under intense thermal stress and structural ember threats.
Rooted in the West
Chad's dedication to protecting communities is fueled by his firsthand appreciation for the mountain landscapes he serves. As an avid trail runner, sportsman, and backcountry enthusiast, he spends his free time immersed in the Colorado outdoors. This personal connection to the land brings a unique level of care, respect, and technical precision to every project his team undertakes.
